Also known as Stayman Winesap, though the Winesap is a different (and even older) variety. These run medium to large and have a deep red blush that is matte rather than glossy, freckled with light spots. The Stayman I am sampling today is on the large side and is oddly asymmetrical--from one angle its profile describes a rough parallelogram. Rome Beauty (Rome) is a medium-to-large, round late-season apple known for its deep red color and excellent storage qualities. Its green-white flesh is crisp and juicy, with flavor that is more tart than sweet, and it has a thick skin. Rome Beauty is good eaten fresh but is used mostly as a cider apple and for baking, as it holds its shape well.

Red Fuji Apple Redder skinned bud sport of Fuji. Sweet, very crisp and flavorful, excellent keeper. Ripe September-October in Central CA. Excellent pollenizer for other apple varieties. Self-fruitful. USDA Zones Rome Beauty Apple Late blooming, a good choice where hard freezes in late spring are common. Large, round, red, used primarily. The apple forms a tree that is small and deciduous, generally standing 6 to 15 feet ( to m) tall in cultivation and up to 30 feet ( m) in the cultivated, the size, shape and branch density is determined by rootstock selection and trimming method. The leaves are alternately arranged dark green-colored simple ovals with serrated margins and slightly downy undersides.

In Virginia it is often called just Stayman and at one time was a major commercial variety in the state, especially the Valley of Virginia.
